(Liliaceae). Dog's Tooth Violet, Trout lily. Genus of about 22 species of spring flowering, clump forming tuberous perennials. They occur in habitats ranging from deciduous woodland to open mountain meadows in Europe, Asia and N. America. From spring to early summer, slender, upright stems produce several pendent flowers with conspicuous stamens and 6 pointed, recurred tepals. Prefer cool climate.
